For this project I wanted to experiment with creating a garment that had multi functions. My Inspiration came from looking into Architecture, in specific small spaces. The intense design of the small spaces was exciting and I liked how every inch of the space was carefully considered to contribute to the overall design. A shelf could also function as a chair, or the overall shape of the building could contribute to the power efficiency of the house etc. I wanted to embody this ethos in my design.
Having just moved to Nottingham from a small town, the amount of homelessness struck me, and I wanted to use this project to create a garment that would be functional as clothing as well as a shelter. It is important that my designs are functional and have more than just one use to give them a longer life.
I used lots of pockets on this design to add function to the garment, and poppers on the inside allowed the garment to have sleeves, that could be unfastened when being used as a tent.
I used white fabric as this was a requirement for this project so that the focus would be on shape and silhouette.
